Here are Maneli Jamal, Owen Van Larkins and Trevor Gordon Hall playing a piece they wrote for the show they did together. A really fun piece, and some really nice improv as well. Here’s hoping for a trio album!

When I read about Trevor Gordon Hall and his ‘kalimbatar,’ I knew I had to check it out. Sticking a kalimba to the top of your guitar could easily be considered gimmicky. But when done right, experiments like this can lead to new possibilities and, most importantly, good music.
After listening to Pino Forastiere’s latest album From 1 to 8, and being blown away by his amazing technique and beautiful compositions, I became intrigued by his intentions behind writing the etudes that make up the album. So naturally, I asked:
Usman Riaz is a Pakistani multi-instrumentalist and composer who also happens to play a pretty mean acoustic guitar. He just released his first full-length album Circus in the Sky, a seemingly ambitious record which I’m anxiously waiting to listen to.
Originally known for playing spanish guitar, Kelly Valleau recently switched to steel-string for his new album “Vol. 2.” I asked Kelly about the switch as well as his teaching site String Training.
Over the last few years, Maneli Jamal has been making quite a name for himself, mostly thanks to his powerfully evocative music which is a reflection of his life. For his upcoming album The Lamaj Movement, he’s focusing on the story of his family and all the struggles and experiences thy’ve lived through.
